Trapping light in plain sight

Embedded eigenstates are bound states that are bound despite their being nothing to prevent them from leaking into the surrounding radiative continuum. In Laser Photonics Review, Francesco Monticone reports a general construction to create bound states in the continuum, and analyzes important properties of BICs. For instance, our simple model allows to answer the question if BICs bring high LDOS enhancements, allowing to sort out which light-matter interactions can and can not be boosted by BICs.
